How To Bring Balance To Your Emotions

I wanted to create a blog post for you about Emotional Balance. This is a subject that I get asked about so often and help so many women with. Our emotional well being has a huge impact on how we live and experience life.

It has an effect on how we see ourselves, how we see others, how we react to our partners, children, and friends, on our relationships, on our health and pretty much everything…

When our emotions are in check we feel amazing. We feel energized, excited about life and empowered.  We all want to feel amazing right? We all want to feel like we have everything under control. We all want to enjoy vitality and healthy and ready to take on the world.

But as we women get older and take on more and more responsibility we take on more stress in our lives.  We are trying to be everything to everyone. That overload causes an imbalance in our body, especially at an emotional level.

That invariably starts to take its toll on us physically, mentally and spiritually...we begin to lose our shine.  Our confidence takes a hit, self-doubt can creep in and you are sitting there feeling less than empowered and wondering how the heck did you get to this point in your life. This is not what you had dreamt of for your life!

Well I’m here to tell you that your life doesn’t have to be that way and you can make simple shifts in your life that will bring balance to your emotions and bring balance back to your life, so you no longer feel like a victim and you start to enjoy more inner peace and feel empowered...

What causes Emotional imbalance?

We are constantly under threat from our external world and I don’t mean that in a negative and pessimistic way.  What I mean is that as much as you try to bring about inner peace, calm and try to be zen about life, there are external factors that are going to try to sabotage your efforts.

Being a Mom is tough right? Especially if you are working, trying to pay bills, contribute financially, be a good partner, run errands, clean up around the house, do the groceries, try to stay in shape and hundreds of other things.

We get pretty good at multitasking and it is not about complaining. We love being a Women, we love being a Mom, being a wife etc. But after a while, all these external forces start to add up.

They are taxing us little by little and we’re not even aware of it until it is too late and we have crashed and burned.

Sometimes our lives can be going along perfectly and we have a health challenge or go through menopause and things start to shift too with our emotions.  So it is not always the stress that get’s us, but just life in general.

How can we bring about balance?

The good news is that we can make a change and bring about emotional balance in our lives.  We can do that by applying some of the following:

  • Meditation

  • Exercising

  • Eliminating the stressors in your life

  • Changing your diet

  • Balancing your Chakras


Using Essential Oils

This may be new to so many of you and don’t let the word meditation scare you or make you think you need to now become some spiritual guru -- that is not the case.

Meditation is simply the practice of quietening your mind and going within.  You can do it lying in bed, first thing in the morning, at night before you go to sleep, or sit in your chair for 5 minutes or in your car when you have dropped the children off at school.

It can be done anywhere and at any time and is an amazing way to decrease stress and actually help your body reset.  It will help you with your emotions, with you feeling overwhelmed and out of control.

So many people say…”I can’t meditate it is too hard for me”...well that is exactly why you need to meditate!


Exercise is so important for our emotional health as it stimulates digestion, blood flow and many “happy” and “feel good” chemicals within our body.

Now that isn’t always possible when we are busy and seemingly overworked, nor does it seem like an option when your emotions are all over the place and you’re in the midst of chaos.

But is not an option...It is something we have to do. Ideally, I would recommend you get outside of your house and walk/hike / run in nature.  Or get out to a local gym and do a class where you are surrounded by uplifting people.

If this is not possible then do it indoors.  There are so many free exercise programs out there on YouTube that you can follow, no matter your level of fitness, without the need to have all the equipment too.

Movement is medicine for our bodies, mind, and soul. Force yourself to do it and start to feel good.

Eliminating the Stressors in Your Life

There are many stressors in our daily lives that can really create chaos with our emotions and our mental state.

These can range from spreading yourself too thin and taking on too much.  Are you doing way too much as a Mom?  Are you trying to be everything to everyone, taking on all the chores, tasks and errands?  Are you trying to be the perfect wife, Mom, sister, daughter and everything else?

Perhaps you are over committed with your work or with your friends and social life?

What you want to do is grab a piece of paper and pen and get honest with yourself.  Start writing out all the “things”, people and situations that are adding stress to your life.  

Be honest with yourself

Once you have done that, mark out the ones that are the biggest issues and also the ones you can eliminate quickly.

Maybe it is something as simple as getting help with the washing and cleaning -- get the children to help or hire help a couple of times a week.

Perhaps there is clutter in a room in your house, that is bugging you.  Go spend 30 minutes now clearing out.  Clear out your closet of anything that you haven’t worn in the past 6 months.  

Remove yourself from toxic relationships and friends that are stressing you out.  Unsubscribe from all those emails that are coming into your inbox.  You may think this is not significant, but it is all cumulative and all these little stressors add up to cause BIG emotional imbalance.

For the larger stressors in your life, get help.  You cannot take on everything and be everything to everyone without ending up suffering.

Get your life back and eliminate the causes of your stress.

Changing Your Diet

Our diet plays a massive role in how we feel and our emotions. The quality of the foods we eat is super important.  There are so many toxins, chemicals and other ingredients that do our body harm and cause inflammation.

There is plenty of research online for you to explore these areas in detail but I would like to make some suggestions.

At first, it is not always easy. But when we are conscious of the food we eat, it places less stress on our body and emotions.

The gut is the center of our immune system and a healthy gut is so important.  Poor gut health can lead to all sorts of health issues and cause inflammatory responses. The inflammatory responses play a direct role in our mental and emotional state.

Science knows this for sure now -- our moods can be directly correlated to the foods that we eat.

So my advice is to try to stay clear of gluten and wheat.  Reduce the number of processed foods in your house and rather choose all natural, fruits and veggies.  

Substitute the baking ingredients you may use with more healthy options like almond or coconut flour.  Cut out the sugars and dairy.  These are extremely inflammatory for your body.

Sugar is in everything even sauces, bread, and all those “healthy” meals, cereals and yogurts.

Balancing Your Chakras

Chakra’s are essentially wheels of energy throughout our body. They correspond to nerve centers or organs in the body and can have massive physical, mental, emotional and spiritual impact on our well being.
When these Chakra’s are compromised and energy is not flowing, we feel out of balance.
I am going to show you how you can work on those to open them up and bring your energy and flow of your body back into balance.
I have a whole section dedicated to Chakras along with the correct remedies for clearing them and opening them up.
I also integrate the use of Essential Oils into this process to help maximize your return to balance. 

Using Essential Oils

Essential Oils are amazing and my go to for Emotions...To be honest I fell in love with oils so much a number of years ago after they help me with my wellness, that I started my own oils business. Pretty cool, right?

Essential Oils are aromatic compounds that are found naturally in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants.
One of the fascinating ways essential oils are used is with your olfactory system (i.e. your sense of smell).
Essential oils are simply a mixture of volatile aromatic
compounds. These compounds are able to interact with the olfactory (smell) receptors in the nose.
Our sense of smell can have a profound effect on our emotions, and simply inhaling the aroma can elicit an emotional response.
The smell receptors located on the upper surface of the nasal cavity make direct links with the limbic system of the brain, where the scent is perceived and processed.
There are a number of ways to use essential oils such as Internally, Topically or Aromatically.
