I decided to get off sugar again. This is a never-ending battle, as sugar is considered more addictive than heroin. Sugar spikes Dopamine levels, so when you go off of it, it can actually be quite depressing, especially at first while your body regulates back to your normal brain chemistry levels through the gut instead of through artificial spikes caused by sugar. I have done some research (see below) on studies that show Dopamine and Serotonin are increased through the use of essential oils. 

I have worked with my functional medicine doctor to get the exact dosage that I need. Below is my 'Dopamine Bomb' and it has been incredible! I have also used some of this in small amounts for my clients for Serotonin and Dopamine with excellent results. I'm currently using a capsule of Bergamot with a little Cinnamon twice a day and it's been incredible for my intense sugar cravings due to elevated stress levels.

My brain craves that Dopamine rush from sugar and thus Dopamine bombs help keep it nice and level. Don't get me wrong, I am not eating sugar constantly, I could never do that with Lyme disease, however, I can revert back to it during times of stress. It's during those times that I use this Dopamine bomb. Talk to your functional medicine doctor about dosage or help with Dopamine and Serotonin levels via essential oils.

 
 
  • 10 drops Bergamot in a capsule (this is lot but I needed a lot). I consider this a large dose and only recommend it under a doctors supervision 
  • 4 drops Cinnamon in a capsule. I don't take this on an empty stomach, I take it with food so it's emulsified.
  • Additional oils to consider: 1 drop of Clove and Juniper Berry

Talk to your functional medicine doctor about dosage as I did, since this is a higher amount than regularly recommended for internal use which is normally only a few drops

 Serotonin:

  • 4 drops Thyme
  • 4 drops Bergamot or Tangerine in a capsule twice a day.
